You are a Witcher, a warrior who has been trained to fight since childhood, subjected to mutations and trials that have transformed you. You earn a living killing monsters, and are a member of a brotherhood founded to protect people from werewolves, the undead, and a host of other beasts. It uses advanced graphics and physics systems for a high-powered blend of brutal action, complex RPG options, and sweeping storytelling.

Enhanced Edition has improved graphics, retouched gameplay mechanics, speedier loading, and added dialog and character gestures. Also included are bonuses such as a MOD editor called D'jinni that allows players to create or modify their own adventures in the world of The Witcher, as well as 2 new adventures created by CD Projekt RED.

I told myself I was going to do another playthrough of The Witcher, then play through Assassins of Kings, both before Wild Hunt came out. I'm still not even halfway through the first one.

    • I took quite a break from playing, so my memory is a little fuzzy. All I remember is killing wave after wave of the other dogs it summoned before finally killing the Beast itself. Can't remember how hard it was or if I used any particular potions or tactics.

    • This has also been a barrier to me getting involved in the series. Though from what I understand, you can safely skip The Witcher because evidently Witcher 2 has a prologue that does a good job of explaining things.

And even failing that, I'm sure there's probably a Youtube video somewhere that does a good job of explaining the story of the first game.

[+] If you still haven't abandoned Playfire, because we all vomit Witcher posts, 24/7, here's yet another one:

I used a post-processing graphic "mod", featuring ENB, SweetFX, GEMfx & Durante's Dark Souls II D3D9.dll - it makes the game way darker and desaturates the colors.

These graphical changes make the game ... harder; have effects on your gameplay style (keep saying, graphics have nothing to do with gameplay). In Dark Souls 1 especially, you walk slower, since you cannot see beyond 3 feet in front of you and can die (roguelike!)

The color tone and temperature is purely a personal preference. If you want to try it out, just drop the files into the exe folder of your DX9 game.

There's a beast in the sewers. I have a potion that slows down time, which makes MY reactions slower = I get stunned and the time it takes to get up I get attacked by the beast, no matter how fast I slam on the keyboard to escape.

I tried to cheat but this game has no cheat codes. You have to edit hex files or use a trainer. You NPC buddies are as useful as those in Dark Souls. One-hit-and-dead kinda friends.

Here's a dude who has the EXACT same problem, that I do, trying to defeat this boss on hardest difficulty. It's really tough...

RPGs = running back and forth for fetch quests. Exploring, adventuring ... all gets lost in running around.

    • That's probably why Witcher 2 was made a bit more linear. The side quests kept me coming back because really, they were pretty awesome though.

    • The swamp seems imposing at first but you realize pretty quickly that the area is pretty small, all the areas are small actually. The Map is also very accurate so you can depend on it.

This time I'm actually making use of all the different signs, potions, blade coatings, mutagens, and other augments that add strategy to the combat, and it's a lot more fun. Still finding my unbelievably bad fortune at dice poker frustrating though.
