Game buzz for Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth

    Not as bad as everyone made it out to be, to be honest. But it lacks... the charm Civ V.

    • Well, I played it during Steam Free Weekend and it's real bad. For me. There is no charm, no nations-thing ("what nations can be at universe?!!" Cmin! I don't care, I wanna play as Napoleon and take hall goddamn universe, and I don't care about logic!), but there are that damn dark atmosphere, puke menu and buttons and, and, and...

      I prefer to think that it was an extended package for Civ 5, some sort of trying to test cosmo-gameplay.

    • The biggest problem I have with it is just how little there is to it. The Civilisations don't have nearly as much charm as they did in Civ V. That, and the game seems to have much less as well...

    - Playing as one of four new factions, including the Al Falah, a group of nomad explorers descended from wealthy and resilient Middle Eastern states;

    - Investing in multiple Affinities to unlock hybrid Affinity units and upgrades for the first time;

    - Collecting and combining alien relics via a new Artifact System that unlocks powerful benefits;

    Would've been cooler if this was an expansion that connected to Civ 5...

    Like, that would have been massive

    • It's really nice if you look past the fact that it's basically the base-game of Civ V with some cool bits added on. Once all the DLC are out I'm pretty sure it'll be a top notch strategy game. But right now, I'm sticking with Civ V.

    • if it was just an expansion, they wouldn't be able to sell it for 59,99$ at launch

    STEAM FREE WEEKEND!

    Too bad the game crashes on start for me, each time. Unlike the demo version, which I played, but 100 turns limit were not enough to convince me that I need this game in my library.

    • Duders, thanks for your concerns & tips. Endless Legend is ok. Not my cup of tea, for the short time I played it. Did not click with me. I can see though why it was on some peoples GOTY lists.

      But I was eager to see in-depth why Beyond Earth got so underwhelming reviews. I wasn't looking for a 'new' game. :)

    • Never could get the demo to fully load on my computer... guess that means my comp can't handle it

    So is this game truly worth paying the amount it asks for so far? I've heard it doesn't do much in terms of change from Civ 5.

    • Yeah I know. When I mean by change I mean adds to it or improves upon.

    • meh, it's really fun to play, but if you are looking for changes from Civ5, you will probably have to wait till Civ6. The only change this offers is that everything is adapted to an alien planet and a more futuristic environment. Energy instead of Gold, Health instead of happiness, Virtues instead of Social Policies, little help pods instead of tribes. Plus, there is this thing called miasma everywhere, which hurts your units and might become fairly problematic if you are new to the game.

[+] I have a huge load of fun with this game, but it is still not nearly as good as expected. I didn't think there would be as much content as Civ V has, but at least the bugs and balance problems should have been fixed in this. Other leaders still make me an offer and then DON'T WANT TO TAKE IT if I say yes. Sadly, Beyond Earth is just a space clone of Civ V without addons, and I hope some patches and a nice addon will give it identity very, very soon.
