You control a dragon, preying upon a medieval fantasy kingdom in one of 4 game modes, laying waste to knights and castles and kidnapping princesses (for ransom!), all in the pursuit of more shiny shiny to decorate hoard sweet hoard with.

You control the dragon with two thumb sticks, one to fly and one to direct a stream of cleansing fire emerging from the dragon's mouth -- over crops, windmills, merchant carts, archers and all sorts of targets. Winnow your target down to extinction after a few fiery gasps and all that is left in their wake is a small mound of treasure, to be collected and returned to the dragon's home base on the map, its hoard, where you can heal and upgrade one of 4 abilities: Speed, Breath, Treasure Capacity, and Armor.

[+] Tired of the new Hoard music? Wish there was a way to change it back? You're in luck, it is possible!

    Warning: This is lengthy.

I really enjoyed the old Hoard music, and was disappointed when it was changed to the current style. It all sounds the same and starts to wear after awhile, which ended up annoying me and I would stop playing after only a couple games. I wanted to see if I could change that. After a quick search on the Steam forums and over at the official Hoard forums (which have become overflowing with bot spam), I could see I was on my own. So I decided to poke around in the game files themselves.

That's when I discovered how many files actually make up the music for the game. I could see that simply renaming some files wouldn't bring back the full range of music for all the game modes that I previously enjoyed, so I kept looking.

I've had Hoard installed since release, and I noticed while poking around that the musiclogic.nut file was the only one that was dated much later than all the other .nut files in the folder. Since the new music was one of the last changes that occurred before Big Sandwich games was acquired (and therefore dropped support for Hoard), I had the bright idea to simply replace this single file with an old backup copy of Hoard and see if that changed anything. And, it did!

So here I am, sharing my discovery and hopefully helping more people enjoy part of what originally made Hoard so great.

Hoard's old music is a lighthearted fanfare of excitement and whimsy, and is much catcher and fun than the dreaded sort of militaristic music that the developers chose to change to for some reason.

The old music is an assortment of different files. Rather than simply playing a track throughout a level, the music changes dynamically in subtle ways that vary depending on what is happening during the level, and how long the level is played for. Luckily, all these files still exist in the Steam install!

There is a singe file that tells the game which music to play, and how. This file is called musiclogic.nut This file is located in ../Steam/steamapps/common/hoard/encrypteddata

I have uploaded an old version of this file that was previously installed with the game. This file has NOT been modified in any way.

    INSTRUCTIONS:

    1. Download Old_Hoard_Music.zip

    2. Navigate to /Steam/steamapps/common/hoard/encrypteddata folder on your computer

    3. Overwrite the musiclogic.nut file there with the file in Old_Hoard_Music.zip

    4. Play Hoard and enjoy the music!

    Old_Hoard_Music.zip (7.24kb) contains:

    musiclogic.nut

    readme.txt

    Note:

Validating the Integrity of your Game Cache WILL revert the musiclogic.nut file to the new one, which will change the music back to the militaristic tracks.

Fun stuff. I can see this playing very well for a LAN party.

    • It's definitely designed for quick multiplayer matches. The mouse controls, IMO, are a little bit stiff and tough to use but easy to pick up with a little practice.

The game itself is very arcade like. I've only experienced single player, but its the kind of game I will come home on my lunch break and kill some time with.

Does anyone play this on multiplayer? I really want to but the matchmaking isn't picking anyone up. Let me know if you have it on steam and are up for a game. :)

You want me to get upset because you unfriended me for it? LOL You come crawling back and join one of my groups just to talk to me before revoking your friend request again because I said that if Steam is on, it just means my computer is on, not that I'm available.

Stop trying to get me to care about you. You're some random guy in the internet acting like a child. I'd prefer to play HOARD with someone who has a lick of sense and doesn't run off crying because I'd rather get bills taken care of than play a game with you.
