Game Rating: 9.5/10
What a joy it was to re-visit and Platinum this amazing game for a third time. 2 days and 23 hours is all it took to get it done and to be honest I could barely put the controller down. What a game Rocksteady created back in August 2009 and in my opinion it’s one of those rare examples where the developers just get everything so right.
The set up and story is top notch with excellent pacing and some brilliant and varied boss battles throughout. The island itself it brilliantly constructed with some fantastic art design and a huge amount of detail. The music is dramatic and fits perfectly with the overall style and presentation of the game. The controls are responsive and fluid making it extremely easy to climb, glide, sneak and fight your way through the asylum. The gameplay has terrific variety as it incorporates combat, stealth and puzzles seamlessly. Even hunting down the collectibles is fun in this game and it’s not often you can say that. Rocksteady also did a fantastic job bringing the characters from the comics to life and the voice acting throughout is absolutely top notch.
Platinum Difficulty: 6/10
In all honesty I’d give it a 3/10 now but that’s only because I’ve played it a number of times already along with the sequel. To anyone new to the series however I think a 6/10 is a fair rating as a few of the Combat Challenges (mainly Shock and Awe Extreme) will cause new players (who haven’t yet mastered the mechanics of the combat) a lot of headaches. It did for me when I first played the game but with a little practice it will just ‘click’ and you’ll find a rhythm with the combat.
