a year in reveiw. (plus personal GOTY and Burnout farewell)

every year around this time, all the AAA games have been released and for those like me who purchase what they are interested in day one, it leaves very little new games to experience until the next big game push (luckily Q1 2010 this year), so ive decided to reflect on everything that was (for me at least) in 2009.

sony exclusives were very hot this year. with new titles such as infamous, current gen sequels like uncharted 2 and assassins creed 2, and some whose follow up made the jump from a previous generation like killzone 2. althought these games were stellar and ive been very happy with every purchase 2 purchases really stand out this year, my xbox360 and the pspgo. in buying and playing a 360 i learned that even though most of my assumptions about it were correct, it is still a respectable console and provides very well developed and entertaining games (ie mass effect, gears, etc...). i have recently adopted a new outlook on games... "it doesnt matter what you play on, only that you are enjoying yourself", which i am.

this brings me to my newly aquired pspgo. i know the cons of the platform, but for me, this was right place right time. i have an ipod with 30gb of storage which is far too much for me so ive been looking to downsize for the past year or so, AND ive been more than displeased with the blue psp 2000(a descion based entirely on the color of the unit sadly) so i had been looking to make a change there also while still staying in the sony brand. being that i didnt have very many psp games to begin with (and wasnt exactly drooling over the ones i had) i didnt feel it would be too costly to invest in the GO and kill 2 birds with 1 stone. a smaller storage space for music and a black psp unit with only games ive truly come to enjoy. so for me the GO is more than some money sink psp, it was also my new "ipod", well mp3 player but im sure the concept of what im getting at is established.

2010 looks bigger and brighter than 2009 in the gaming world. which is scary considering the amazing things that have come from 2009. alot has changed already and im curious to see where new technologies take it. this isnt NES anymore. no, this is so much bigger now. but it had to start somewhere... (yes i know it didnt actually start with NES, im just using it as a generic benchmark in reference to advancements)

so to finish this up, im going to give my personal GOTY to infamous. it may not have been the longest game, but with no other game did i experience the inability to put the controller down. i just HAD to keep playing,just to see what happened next, and no other game made me feel that way throughout 2009.

RIP to burnout paradise as well. 1 and a half years carried that game to new places in constantly changing vehicles, and it was fun. but new games have come and gone, and sadly one of 2008's best online social games has been forgotten. im very happy to say that many of the friends i met in paradise are still amongst the elite of my psn friends list.

next purchase?

so well ive decided that i need a new toy, but am undecided as to what it should be. i have a psp but the blue 2000 model is rather unappealing anymore, and well im quite tired of not hearing my games and movies in surround so anymore.

i want something new. and ive narrowed it down to a black psp 3000, black psp go or a new 5.1 surround sound. ugh. such a difficult choice.
