T his episode is special , after 2 weeks of battle between the Member of the month nominees we finally can announce who will be the member of the month. When making the community news threads i always look forward to
Write this intro , Knowing I'm directly speaking to the readers of the CN threads, Well i hope your reading this and not just
ignore it ... hehe. We have several new articles , sadly two articles are also gone ... " Girlgamer " and " Did you know ... " The 2 articles will be missed but i tried to replace them with other stuff. Yes i know ... i cant really replace it but its better to give something in return , right ? Seraph's decision to leave Playfire was sad news , she will be missed by many and i can honestly say ill be the one who will probably miss her most, not only did she helped me tremendously with new ideas with the Community news thread but she was also one of the few people where i had daily contact with on Playfire.
Anyway enough with the sad news , you'll be able to read M4v3r1kk first articles and we have a new Community news author in the team: JOber . I'm sure most members will know her and i can already say that she is a great value for the team. I hope you'll enjoy this episode !

Mercenaries 2 (pc, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360)

Gamers that want to shoot at everything that moves are going to have a wonderful time with Mercenaries 2
The sequel to the appriciated Mercenaries 1 is now in Venezuela, You will be betrayed by a Drug boss and like always you want revenge for what he did. The result is a very large , free to inspect and play game world with lots of missions.

Spore (PC)

The creative maker of The sims Will Wright has done it again , with his latest creation Spore you'll start as a Cell , Similar like Pac-Man you'll need to avoid enemies and eat all sorts of living things to evolve. With the easy but almost limited creation builder you can make thousands and thousands of different creatures. Eventually you'll need to conquer the entire universe.. Out  Now !

Crysis warhead (PC)

PC-gamers have no reason to complain this month , not only do they get Spore but also the latest Add-on for Crysis.
Warhead will have the same story but from a different view. You will play as a Psycho and will see his wicked and strange views on the world. Developer CryTek also confirmed that the graphics are polished , meaning high end PC users have even better graphics and lower Graphic card can play the game better.
Out on 12 September.

Star wars: the force unleashed (PS2, PS3 , Xbox 360 , Wii , DS , PSP)

One week later will be the day for all Star wars fans , they can play with a jedi in the new star wars game.
Darth Vader himself will teach you the way of the dark force., Fight with your lightsaber or use your force powers
Lighting, push and pull to defeat the enemy. With the Wii-mote you can even duel with other players .. how cool is that ?!

Brothers in Arms : Hell's highway ( PC , xbox 360 , PS3)

World war 2 is also present in September with incredible graphics and story , thanks to Brothers in arms.
You will have to survive by controlling your team , going alone is making your death wish.. the advanced AI and destroyable cover will not make it easy for you.  Out on 25 September

Pure(PC , xbox 360 , PS3)

its not only shooting this month , the dirty racing is also at the party !
Pure is a offroad racer that will need all your focus to win a race , you don't have to be first over the finish ..
You will need points that you get from destroying other vehicles or with doing stunts. No realism , Fun and amazing graphics makes this game a must buy. The online play makes it ven better.
Out on 26 September

The above list isn't all for this month , Viva pinata : trouble in paradise the sequel to the popular first game and TV shows will be available exclusive for Xbox 360 and is now available to buy ! The cartoon boxing game Facebreaker is also available to buy for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Hardcore racers can look forward for GTR Evolution , exclusive for PC and can be bought now. Don't forget RPG fans you can also buy infinite discovery , PC gamers can look forward to the sequel STALKER clear sky.  On 12 september another off-road racer will be avilable to buy BAJA for the 360 and Ps3. Maybe the biggest game for this month will be te long awaited MMORPG Warhammer: age of reckoning , this maybe will be the world of warcraft killer. The month will end with my favorite Horror game Silent hill homecoming .

Wizziokid : Hello my name is Craig Maughan I'm 17, male and live in Newcastle Upon Tyne which is in the UK, I'm currently doing a college IT course which I'm on my 2nd year of at the moment after these last 2 year I will probably head to university. I love my music, gaming, the girlfriend and partying, favorite type of music will have to be rock/metal and favorite band is Avenged Sevenfold.   My Favorite game of all time, I would say 'the legend of zelda ocarina of time' for N64.  Playfire.. I think it's the best gaming community on the net at the moment and will probably stay that way.

 

Unstablefears: Five words that best describe me: A quite , introverted , sarcastic gamer. Yes , I am counting "A" as a word :P My favorite game for this gen , heavenly sword . Amazing characters , great graphics , even better storyline. For previous gens , Final Fantasy 6. Best FF game ever.  Playfire is a great site and an even better community.  I haven't been here very long , but i have met a lot of  interesting people and everyone has been very welcoming.

1) Do you view video games as art, or just fun?

Dimman: Fun, not into art haha

Unstablefears: Mostly fun. Though, the art of a game certainly does add to the experience.

Bigdvr6: though one this as it can depend on the game, take battlefield bad company for instance i can play the game for hours it looks great and play realy well but its only for fun, then we have games like Uncharted,Bio shock which are amazing games, the details of levels or enemys makes it more than fun, its art in motion.

2) What are your favorite video game genres?

Dimman: RPG,Strategy

Unstablefears: My overall favorite genre would be RPG. It's fun to be able to loose yourself into a character or another world. My second genre would have to be FPS. It's also fun randomly shooting at things heh.

Bigdvr6: favorite game genres, thats an easy one :D FPS, i love shooters, from back in the old days with games like doom, wolfenstine and duke nukem right upto R;fom and Halo 3, thanks to the great online modes like C ,P, T to a simple death match or the games a spent most of my last 3-4 years playing Battle field, the conquest games was just perfect with its squad base play, having a comander giving orders to lone wolfing it as a sniper .

3) SayYourSay! (just say we didn't know about you.

Dimman: Huh ?!

Unstablefears: Love gaming ( duh ) and anime, but I also dabble in web development from time to time. I am pretty knowledgeable in PHP, MySQL, XHTML, etc. Not advanced, but certainly not novice either. I also have 2 piercings in my left eyebrow and one lip ring.

bigdvr6: havent got a clue what to put here so il just say This, Little big planet will Rule ;)

Recently I thought, "What classifies a game a favourite for me?"   I always thought a favourite game would be something I would always play no matter the graphics and mechanics.

Yet I cannot bring myself to play such games as Grand Theft Auto III simply because it doesn’t have all the options in San Andreas and I cannot bring myself to play San Andreas because Grand Theft Auto IV has even better game mechanics and graphics.

So I thought, “ I guess a favourite game for me must be something that is dominated by a sequel or has dated game mechanics.”

But oh how wrong I was. About half a month ago, I installed Stronghold Crusader and enjoyed it enough to not play its sequel or play other, newer games.

I was playing a 2D game, with mechanics so old and outdated, that had a 3D sequel with more options; a game that I would have never thought to play again amongst new strategy games.

And so I came to a realization that favourite games for me don’t need to have good mechanics for the current time or amazing graphics. Favourite games are something I can pick up and become addicted to after not playing it for over three years.

Even games like Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 did not garner such a reaction from me. Games like Resident Evil 4, Star Wars: Battlefront II or Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater were never like Stronghold Crusader.

So my question to the readers is: what classifies a favourite game for you and what is your current favourite (only one please).
