Online, no one can hear you scream...

Top marks to Rebellion for bringing back the game they launched not only onto the Atari Jaguar way back in the day, but also one of the most memorable PC FPS from 1999.

Granted, this version feels more of a 'console' game rather than a PC game, but thats no bad thing.  After playing the start of the Marine SP campaign and having an hour or so online (with reasonable players!) The game really works even better than expected, a true 'Next-Gen' update!

Online is solid, more so if its played at a 'realistic' pace, use the shadows, sneak around...its one of the more enjoyable online experiences I've had in some time, this game is all about the atmosphere and with a good bunch of online players you'll agree its the game the fans have been waiting for!

Well back to the SP game for now, and I'm sure I'll see some of you online, and remember, check those corners!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Having played all 3 Stalker games now, I have to say I have never played a series of FPS/RPG games that contains so much atmosphere!

Apart from the huge play area, the look/style of the 'Zone' the sound effects and the awesome day/night cycles and the storms!  The feeling of 'being there' is intense.  I feel the more I play either of the Stalker games, I say to myself....just one more mission, the next thing you notice it's 3am!

For me the Stalker series is as good as an 'action' RPG (FPS) game gets.  Sure we have Fallout 3 and Borderlands, those games may share some aspects from each other, but really Stalker stands out on its own for me, it has a 'feel' that the others can't touch (not that they are bad or rate above or below Stalker), its the 'real world' approach that makes Stalker what it is!  To sum up.....

Atmosphere, FPS, RPG, Survial, Free-Form, Real World, Nightime Storms !!!

  • No, XII was a console game, XI was the online one. X-2 was okay for a sequel, it wasn't anything special but it was playable and the game play was good. Same goes for X.

XII though, it played like XI, like they wanted to use their MMO style for a console, and to me it failed. I could literally set the AI to fight the way I want to through a system called "Gambits". So, with enough time, you could set them to fight how you want and never touch the controller during a fight. Quite boring when you're not directly in control of the fight. It was an interesting concept, but it was executed poorly. The combat system itself was horrid, in my opinion. I did like the story though, just the game play killed it for me.

And, while it might not directly effect the upcoming game of 13, it's still a game made by the company of Square-Enix, and that effect's my opinion of it. Like I said, I'll give it a rental, but I'm not shelling out 60+ bucks for it right away.

  • Thanks.

And, I'm not really looking forward to Final Fantasy XIII. XII Left a pretty bad impression on me. Hell, I forgot it was even coming out tomorrow. lol I might give it a rental at a later date, though, but that's about it.

  • hey thx for the wallpost,
nice setup you got there btw, alienware sure knows how to make a case.
Also i saw you had some nice game controllers, i just have mouse+keyboard and a 6dof 3D controller.

Still i prefer to build them myself as it saves me money, so i can buy a more heavy pc ;)

  • Hey :) Yes I have ff13 on preorder and I can't wait! Heavy Rain is so much fun but I'm limited on how much I can play until I get my own copy I'm currently borrowing from my brother while he's at work but from what I've gotten through so far it's almost like watching an interactive movie each twist is exciting to say the least. I don't really online game on my PS3 very much as I don't have many games that require online play, my brother how ever is really into those kind of games. I use my PS3 the most and tend to buy most of my releases for it cept the xbox 360 exclusive RPG's. As for White Knight Chronicles and Star Ocean I haven't tried either yet but I'd like too :)
